Sept. 16 Depart U.S.
17 Arrive Beijing – Guide will meet you and transfer you to the
Prime hotel. Welcoming dinner at the Wahaha restaurant. D.
18 Beijing – Guide will take you to Tiananmen Square, Forbidden
City and the Summer Palace. BL dinner on your own tonight.
19 Beijing – Guide will take you to the Great Wall at Mutianyu.
Spend as much time as you like but best hiking is going to the
left when you get up on the Wall. There is a section that has been
left as it always has been with out being repaired. On the way
back to the city you will stop at the Lama Temple known for
its 5 story tall Buddha carved from one tree trunk. BL dinner
on your own tonight.
20 Beijing/Xian – A.M. – Guide will transfer you to the airport for
your early morning flight. In Xian you will be met by the local
guide and taken to the Shaanxi Museum one of the best in China.
After lunch you will go to the old Muslim Mosque and Muslim
area. Take a walk on the Best preserved City Wall in China
in this once ancient capital city. Tonight after dinner you will
attend the beautiful Tang Dynasty Show once of the best shows
in China. Grand New World Hotel. BLD
21 Xian/Chengdu - P.M. Guide will take you to the famous Terra Cotta
Warriors site in the morning (watch for one of the farmers who found
this ÒwonderÓ who will be signing books). After lunch you will go
to the HuaQing Pools once the Summer Palace of the Tang Dynasty.
Guide will transfer you to the airport for your evening flight to
Chengdu. In Chengdu you will be met by the local guide and transferred
to the JinJiang hotel. BL (dinner on your own perhaps at the airport
before your flight departs)
22 Chengdu/Wolong – Guide and driver will take you through the mountains
to the Wolong Panda Preserve station. (about a 4 to 5 hour drive) After
lunch you will spend the afternoon at the station and visit the new
Museum just completed. Transfer to the Wolong Guest House. BLD
(can check your main luggage in the JinJiang Store room if you like)
23 Wolong over the pass to Rilong. – Today you will drive to Rilong through
some of the most beautiful scenery and mountains in Sichuan province.
You will be going over the Balangshan Pass at 14,760 feet where you
will stop and hike around the area if you wish. Drive on to Rilong and
check into the Jinkun hotel. Visit with the local people with the guide if
you wish. BLD
24 Rilong/Base Camp – You will hike down the valley inhabited by Tibetan
people to the Base Camp. Pack horses with horse boy and guide/cook will
accompany you with tents and supplies. You need only your sleeping
bag and mat with day back pack and good hiking boots. BLD
25 Base Camp – Hike up mountain and back. – You may hike up as high as
you wish up the mountain to the snow areas if you wish today or just
hike around the base camp. Guide will accompany you. BLD
26 Base Camp/Rilong – Hike back to Rilong during the day and check back
into the Jinkun hotel for the night. BLD
27 Rilong/Chengdu – Today you will drive back to Chengdu and transfer to
the JinJang hotel for the night. Special ÒHot PotÓ Sichuan dinner tonight.

28 Chengdu/Kunming/LiJiang – Morning free in Chengdu – Guide will come
about noon to transfer you to the airport for your afternoon flight to
Kunming. In Kunming you pick up your luggage and an agent will meet
you outside the luggage area with your ticket for LiJiang and see that you
get checked in for your flight to LiJiang. In LiJiang you will be met by
the local guide and transferred to the Lishuijinsha Inn Hotel in Old
Town. Special Naxi dinner tonight. BD lunch on your own.
29 LiJiang – Guide will take you through the valley to Snow Dragon Mtn
and take the main Cable Car up onto the top for a wonderful view of Snow
Dragon Mountain and the Glacier. After lunch in the country side lodge
you will stop at an old Naxi village and hopefully meet Dr. Ho of Chinese
Traditional Medicine fame. (I hope he is still alive as he is retired and
over 80 years young) Returning to the city you will stop at Black Dragon
Pool Park and Naxi minority museum. After dinner tonight you will be
entertained by the Dongba Palace old Naxi menÕs band and dance
performance known all over the world. BLD
30 LiJiang - Guide will take you during the day to Tiger Leaping Gorge to
hike for a portion of the day and return in the evening after dinner. BLD
Oct. 1 LiJiang/Xishuangbanna (Jinghong) - - Free during the day to explore this
wonderful town with streams flowing through the town lined with trees
shops, restaurants, parks and over 350 small wooden bridges. This is
my favorite small town in all of China with mountain peaks all around.
Evening flight direct to Xishuangbanna. In Xishuangbanna the local
guide will meet you and transfer you to the Dai Garden hotel. B only.
2 Xishuangbanna – Guide will take you through the countryside to the
Dai Village with a home visit. Stop at one of the many village
markets and have lunch in a countryside open air restaurant. Visit
a Hani village with a home visit before returning to Jinghong. BL
Dinner on your own at one of the many restaurants in town.
3 Xishuangbanna – Guide will take you to the botanical gardens which
were used to study tropical plants from all over the world before
the revolution. If time, stop at the wild elephant preserve. BL
Dinner on your own tonight. (lunch in a countryside restaurant)
4 Xishuangbanna/Shanghai by evening air. Free during the day to
go out and explore on your own. Guide will come at an agreed time
to transfer you to the airport for your late afternoon flight to
Shanghai. In Shanghai you will be met by the local guide and transferred
to the Grand Nation hotel in the central area of Shanghai. B only.
5 Shanghai – Guide will take you to the Yu Garden old district in the
morning before lunch. (note the 250 year old tea house on the crooked
bridge before you enter the Yu Garden) Yu Garden is known as the
#1 or #2 Garden in China (Suzhou claims to have it with the
Humble AdministratorÕs Garden which you will see in Suzhou) For
lunch you will go to the Ye Olde Station Restaurant on North Cao Xi
Road, one of my personal favorites. (ask for a tour of the building)
After lunch you will go to the Shanghai National Museum where you
will see artifacts taken from the many tombs of ancient China. This
evening after dinner at the Shao Xing Restaurant you will attend
The Shanghai Circus & Acrobats Show. (few tourists find this
restaurant and performance) BLD
6 Shanghai – Free day on your own. B. only.
7. Shanghai/JinXi/Luzhi/Shanghai - Guide will take you outside of Shanghai
to the lake country to visit two of the small towns known for their old
houses that once belonged to officials from Shanghai during the Qing
Dynasty. Fantastic photo opportunities as these towns have narrow
canals winding through them with arched bridges and quaint walk ways
where
no cars are allowed. Return to
Shanghai. BL dinner on your own
tonight.
8 Shanghai/Suzhou/Shanghai – Guide will take you to the train station
and see that you get in the correct car and reserved seats. In Suzhou
please remain on the platform and let the local guide find you.
Known as the Venice of the East and for its 86 formal gardens,
your guide will take you to the Humble AdministratorÕs Garden, the
Silk factory where you will see how silk is processed from cocoons along
with the making of silk comforters (we have them on all our beds) and
a Fashion show of silk garments by the Suzhou models known all over
China for their beauty. The Silk garment showroom has samples of all
the local factories under one roof. After lunch you will go to the Garden
of the Nets my personal favorite. A boat ride on the Grand Canal which
stretches from Nanjing to Beijing will show you how people live along
the canal as well as seeing some of the commercial use of the canal.
Guide will take you back to the train station for your 30 minute ride back
to Shanghai. Please take a taxi on your own back to the hotel. BL
Dinner on your own tonight.
9 Shanghai/Pudong airport/home – Guide will see that your luggage will be
taken to the airport by the driver with car to meet you. Your guide will
take you to the Pudong ÒMagLevÓ train station where you
will board the train for your 7 minute and 280 mph transfer to the
airport. You luggage will be waiting for you. B only.
