Mt. Maoer Nature Reserve - Guilin Area
Day 1 Guilin/Mt. Maoer Nature Reserve - Guide will take you to Mt. Maoer in the
morning en route enjoying the beautiful countryside of Guilin which is typical
Karst landscape. Explore along the main road in the reserve while driving slowly
until we arrive at Mt. Maoer. Transfer to the hotel at the top of the mountain
and have lunch. After lunch we will walk up to the summit of Mao'er Mtn. at
6,500 feet above sea level highest peak in south China. We will walk the paths
where many birds frequent for the balance of the day before dinner at the hotel. BLD
2 Mt. Maoer - Visit the summit again in the morning and if the weather allows a
sunrise-watching trip. Walk back to the hotel for breakfast. We will then drive
the main road with walking through other sites along the Shamu river and into
the Azalea Park and Chinese hemlock forest. Return to the hotel for dinner. BLD
3. Mt Maoer/Gulin - Depending on the birds we saw or might have missed the
past two days, we will be flexible to go to the summit again or drive along
the main road down the mountain. Lunch will be in the village of Gaozhai.
We can explore the village and streams in the countryside nearby. Some
birds can be seen here at 2,500 feet above sea level. Drive back to Guilin
at the end of the day and transfer to hotel. BLD
Best Time for Birding is August through December. This tour may be added on to another tour as an extension or taken as an individual tour. A complete list of birds during this tour is available. (over 55 species) Physical difficulty is rated as easy.
