LHASA, Shigatze and Everest Base Camp Tour
Day 1 Lhasa – On arrival at the Lhasa Airport, you will be met by the local guide and be transferred to your hotel conveniently located near the famous Barkhor street in the central district. Rest and acclimate yourself to the high altitude before taking an easy orientation tour by walking not far from your hotel in the afternoon. LD 2. Lhasa – Today you will visit the splendid Potala Palace and taken to a special platform nearby where you will be able to get a great panoramic view of the Palace and take the best photos from there. Your guide will then take you to visit the Hokhang Temple situated at the heart of the holy Barkhor Kora where you will see an endless stream of Tibetan pilgrims. Pay a vist to the Ani Tstang Kung Nunnery hidden in the back streets just in walking distance. You can sit among the locals and taste yak butter tea at the simple teahouse run by the nuns. BLD 3 Lhasa – In the morning you will pay a visit to the local markets where you will find foods, herbs, household utensils and jewelry. Later you will be taken to Norbulingka, the Dalai Lama’s Summer Palace and go to the Sera Monastery in the afternoon. IF lucky you will see the monks debating their religion which can be very active. You will then visit the Thousand Buddha Cliff Carvings which is not widely known by tourists but is highly worshipped by the local Tibetans. BLD 4 Lhasa/Shigatse – Guide will take you to Gyantse by car with a stop en route to have a great view of Yamdrok-tso Lake at 16,000 feet above sea level, one of the most holy lakes in Tibet. Visit the Pelkhor Choede Monastery at Gyantse before continuing onto Shigatse, the second largest city in Tibet. Transfer to your hotel. BLD 5 Ssjogatse/Dingri – Drive to Dingri with a stop on the way to visit the Sakya Monastery. En route enjoy the breath taking landscape of southwest Tibet: Rivers that flow across endless grasslands, millions of yaks and vultures, warm-hearted Tibetan nomads who live in tents and use yak dung as fuel to keep warm and gorgeous snow covered peaks. Transfer to your hotel for the night BLD 6 Dingri/Everest Base Camp – Drive to the Rongbuk Monastery before changing to the Green sightseeing bus which will take you to the Everest Base Camp. Weather permitting, you will be able to have a grand view of Everest with her summit towering into the blue sky. You will also see the great glaciers as well as many other snow-capped peaks of the Himalayan Mountains. Return to a guest house near the Rongbuk Monastery for the night. BLD 7 Everest Base Camp/Shigatse – Enjoy the morning near the monastery where you can see the great mountain again. Then drive back to Shigatse to have some rest after two days’ comparatively rough journey. BLD 8 Shigatse/Lhasa – In the morning you will visit the famous Tashilunpo Monastery and then drive back to Lhasa in another direction along the Brahmaputra River. On the way back you will visit the Yangbajing Geothermal Field and Power Plant. There you can also choose to enjoy the natural hot spring bath if you wish. (Please pay yourself if you wish to enjoy a Hot Spring Bath). You will arrive in Lhasa and transfer back to the hotel. BLD 9 Lhasa/Departure – Free on your own in the morning to explore around your hotel until the guide comes to transfer you to the airport or train station for your next destination. B. only.
