6 DAY  Lhasa & Shigatse Tibet Tour

Day   1  Chengdu/Lhasa - Guide will transfer you to the airport for your morning

            flight to Lhasa.  In Lhasa you will be met by your local guide and transferred

            to your hotel.  The rest of the day is needed to relax and adjust to the high

            altitude.  LD

      2.    Lhasa - Your tour starts with a visit to the Potala Palace built in the 7th century

            by the famous Tibetan king-Songtzen Gampo.  The present Palace was built

            in 1750 b the then 7th Dalai Lama.  After lunch you will visit Jokhang

            Temple situated in the old section of Lhasa.  King Songtzen Gampo built this

            temple in the mid 7th century.  Visit Barkhore Street in the evining.  BLD

      3     Lhasa - In the morning the guide will take you to Drepung Monastery.  This

            monastery occupies an area of 1.8 million sq. ft. with 7700 lamas and is the

            largest monastery in Asia.  After that, you will visit Norbulingka Park.

            In 1752 the 7th Dalai Lama built the first palace here for successive Dalai

            Lamas to carry out their political and religious activities during the summer

            months.  You will then visit a Tibetan family in their home and visit a

            carpet workshop seeing how Tibetan carpets are made.  BLD

      4    Lhasa/Shigatse - Guide will take you to Gyantse by car after breakfast.  On the

            way you will see Yamdrok-tso Lake from the summit of the Kamba-La pass

            at over 14,000 feet.  When you arrive at Gyantse you will visit the Pelkor

            Chode Monastery which was founded in 1418.  Going across the grasslands,

            you will arrive at Shigatse and transfer to your hotel.  BLD

      5    Shigatse/Lhasa - In the morning you will visit the Bachen Lama Sect at the

            Tashilunpo Monastery and hopefully witness a Lama Debate.  This monastery

            was built in 1447 by the first Dalai Lama.  You will see the tombs of the

            Panchen Lamas and then drive back to Lhasa along the Yarlong Tsangpo

            River on the Nepal friendship road in the afternoon.  Transfer back to your

            hotel.  BLD

      6    Lhasa/Chengdu - Guide will transfer you to the airport after breakfast for

            your flight back to Chengdu.  B only.
