9 Day Tibet and Everest Base Camp Tour

Day   1   Chengdu/Lhasa  Guide will transfer you to the airport for your morning flight

            to Lhasa.  In Lhasa you will be met by the local guide and transferred to your

            hotel.  Balance of the day to relax and adjust to the high altitude.  LD

      2    Lhasa - Guide will take you to the Potala Palace built in the 7th century by the

            famous Tibetan king Songtzen Gampo.  The present palace was built by the

            5th Dalai Lama in the 17th century.   After lunch you will visit Jokhang Temple

            situated in the old section of Lhasa. l King Songtzen Gampo built this temple

            in the mid 7th century and is now the most sacred place in Tibet.  In the

            evening you will visit Barkhore Street.  BLD

      3     Lhasa - Your guide will take you to the Drepung Monastery.  This monastery

            is over 1.8 million sq. ft.  and has 7700 lamas which is the largest monastery

            in Asia.  After lunch you will visit the summer palace at Norbulingka Park which

            was built by the 7th Dalai Lama in 1752 as the summer residence for future

            Dalai Lamas to carry out their political and religious activities during the

            summer months.   BLD

      4     Lhasa/Shigatse - Guide will take you by car to Shigatse past Yandrok-tso Lake

            which can be seen from the summit of the Kamba-la pass at over 14,000 and

            stop at Gyantse to visit the Pelkor Chode Monastery.  Founded in 1418, this

            monastery is noted for its superb Kumbum Chode (10,000 Images Stupa)

            After lunch you will continue on across the grasslands to Shigatse and transfer

            to your hotel.  BLD

      5     Shigatse/Dingri - Guide will take you to visit the Tashilunpo Monastery which

            has a history of over 500 years and the largest monastery in Shigatse. 

            Tashilunpo Monastery which is painted in red and white, the buildings in the

            kloster stand closely together in terraced rows, offering a majestic view of the

            area.  After lunch you will visit the new palace of the  Panchen Lama and

            drive on to Dingri at 13,000 feet above sea level.  You will stop at the Sakya

            Monastery on the way and then transfer to your hotel in Dingri.  BLD

      6     Dingri-Rongbuk Monastery - Guide will take you to the Rongbuk Monastery

            at over 17,000 feet above sea level via Lhatse and Shegar, crossing over the

            Gyatsola and Pangla Pass.  You will be able to see the Himalaya mountain

            ranges from this area on a clear day.  In the afternoon you will start trekking

            from the Rongbuk Monastery to the Everest Base Camp which takes about

            2 hours or you can take a local sightseeing bus.  Return to the monastery

            for the night.  BLD

     

      7     Rongbuk Monastery/Shigatse  - Drive through the countryside back to Shigatse

            today and transfer to the hotel.  BLD

      8     Shigatse/Lhasa - In the morning you will visit the Bachen Lama Sect of the

            Tashilunpo Monastery and have another possible chance to see the monks

            during their debates.  Visit the tombs of the Panchen Lamas before driving back

            to Lhasa along the Yarlong Tsangpo River on the Nepal Friendship road in the

            afternoon.  Transfer to your hotel.  BLD

      9     Lhasa/Chengdu - Guide will transfer you to the airport for your flight back to

            Chengdu.  B. only.

This tour segment may be added on to other tours or taken by itself. Included are 3 and 4 star

hotels, meals as listed, sightseeing, English speaking guide with car or bus and driver, all

transportation and your Tibet Permit. Not included are tips to the guide and driver and any

expenses of a personal nature
